Un campesino encontró un huevo de águila y lo colocó en el nido de una perdiz. El aguilucho salió del cascarón junto con los demás polluelos y creció junto a ellos.
Durante toda su vida, el aguilucho “trasplantado”, pensando que era una perdiz, hizo todo cuanto hacen las perdices. Escarbaba en el suelo en busca de semillas e insectos para comer. Cloqueaba y volaba a pocos pies del suelo en breves aleteos como las perdices.
Pasaron los años y el aguilucho se convirtió en un águila muy vieja, que se seguía considerando perdiz. Cierto día, observó una magnífica ave que volaba a gran altura, en un cielo sin nubes. Se sostenía con majestuosidad en las fuertes corrientes y surcaba los aires. “!Que ave tan hermosa! – le dijo el águila vieja a su vecina - ¿quién es?” “Es el águila, la reina de las aves, - cloqueó la vecina – pero ni lo pienses. Jamás te le podrías parecer siquiera”.
El águila “trasplantada” no volvió a pensarlo más, y murió en la creencia que era una perdiz. ¡Que tragedia amigo! Creada para surcar los cielos, pero acondicionada para que se limitara a caminar por la tierra, picotear semillas y correr detrás de los insectos.
Es posible que te encuentres en una situación similar a la del águila. Sabes que has sido creado para realizar obras mucho mayores que las llevada a cabo hasta la fecha. Sabes también que tienes capacidad suficiente para ir mucho más allá de las limitaciones actuales, que tu mismo te has impuesto. No obstante, por una u otra razón, no te has decidido a luchar por destacarte. Te sientes como un automóvil de ocho cilindros que funciona con cuatro solamente.
En este momento puedes empezar a vivir con el vigor del águila, y a volar por las alturas, ¡Para eso fuiste creado! ¿Cómo?, dándote cuenta de que el mejor día para dejar de lado las metas pequeñas y mezquinas es hoy mismo, porque ¡Hoy es tu mejor día, y mañana será mucho mejor!
eagle or partridge?
A peasant once found an eagle egg, so he placed it in a partridge nest. The eaglet came out of his eggshell together with the partridge chicks and they all grew up together.
Throughout his life, the transplanted eagle, thinking he was a partridge, did everything the partridges did. He scratched at the ground in search of seeds and insects to eat. He clucked and flapped his wings, flying just a few feet off the ground as the other partridges.
Years passed and the young eagle slowly became an old one, all the while thinking he was a partridge. One day, the old eagle observed a magnificent bird flying to great heights in the cloudless sky. It glided majestically on the strong currents and soared through the air.
“What a beautiful bird!” the old eagle said to his neighbor. “What kind of bird is it?”
“It’s an Eagle, the King of the birds,” clucked his neighbor, “but don’t even think about flying. There is no way you could ever do that.”
So, the old, transplanted eagle never gave it another thought. He died believing he was a partridge. How tragic, friend! Created to soar through the heavens, but conditioned to limits…to walk along the ground, scratch the earth, peck at seeds and chase insects.
Perhaps you find yourself in a similar place to the eagle. You know you were created to achieve much greater things than you have so far. You also know you’re capable of going much farther than your current limitations – the ones that you have imposed on yourself, but, for one reason or another, you’ve not decided to strive for excellence. You feel like an eight-cylinder auto running on four.
Right now you can begin to live with the strength of an eagle, and soar to great heights. You were created to do this! How? Realize that today is the best day to lay aside small and stingy goals, because today is your best day yet, and tomorrow will be even better!
